Workspaces
Save every open window as a named setup and bring it back with one click or a hotkey.
Pro
A workspace is a snapshot of your apps and where their windows are — sizes, positions and which display each one is on. Restore it after a restart, after unplugging a monitor, or whenever you switch between tasks.
Save a workspace
- Arrange your windows the way you want them.
- Open Workspaces in the panel and click Capture Current Setup.
- Give it a name and click Save.
To update a workspace later, open it and click Re-record.
Restore a workspace
- Click Restore in the panel.
- Right-click the ClickFit icon and choose it under Workspaces.
- Give it a Hotkey and restore it from anywhere.
Pointing at a workspace in the panel shows where its windows will go before you restore it.
Apps that aren’t running are opened for you, and ClickFit tries to reopen windows that were closed. Tab groups that were part of the workspace come back as tab groups.
Workspace options
Open a workspace to change how it restores:
- Restore — Apply layout opens the apps and puts every window back in place; Just open apps only opens them.
- Other windows — what happens to windows that aren’t part of the workspace: leave them, minimize them, or hide their apps.
- Hover preview — turn the preview in the panel on or off.
- Apps — add a running app, choose one from Applications, or remove one.
When your displays change
Workspaces remember displays by their role — main display, the one on the left, and so on — rather than by a hardware ID, so they keep working after a restart or a cable swap. Window positions are stored as proportions of the screen, so they adapt to a different resolution and to your current gap setting.
When the displays don’t match the ones you saved with, Adaptation decides what happens:
| Mode | Behavior |
|---|---|
| Smart | Restores everything it can. Windows from a missing display move to the main display. |
| Partial restore | Skips windows whose display isn’t connected and tells you which ones. |
| Fallback chain | Tries other workspaces you list, in order, and uses the first one saved with your current displays. |
A common setup: a “Desk” workspace saved with your external monitor, with a “Laptop” workspace as its fallback. One hotkey then does the right thing whether the monitor is plugged in or not.
