Troubleshooting
Fixes for the problems people run into most often.
Nothing happens when I drag with the modifier
- Check the permission. ClickFit needs Accessibility access. If it’s already on, switch it off and on again, then quit and reopen ClickFit.
- Check that ClickFit is on. Right-click the menu bar icon; ClickFit may be turned off.
- Check the modifier. The panel shows your trigger under Gestures → Mouse Gestures → Trigger. The default is ⌥ Option.
- Check Excluded Apps. Windows of excluded apps can’t be moved or resized.
A shortcut doesn’t do anything
- Another app may use the same combination. Record a different one under Window Actions — the recorder tells you if a combination is taken. See Keyboard Shortcuts.
- Layout and tab shortcuts need Pro. Check Settings → License.
A window doesn’t move or only moves partway
Some windows can’t be resized below their own minimum size, and some apps ignore outside requests to move certain windows — full-screen windows, system dialogs, and a few apps’ settings windows. ClickFit leaves those as they are.
The 3-finger swipe down doesn’t work
macOS uses that swipe for App Exposé. Turn App Exposé off, or switch it to four fingers, in System Settings → Trackpad → More Gestures. The panel shows the swipe as inactive while macOS has it.
My modifier + click does something in another app
Pick a different trigger under Gestures → Mouse Gestures → Trigger, or add that app to Excluded Apps.
Windows don’t fit where they should after rotating a display
ClickFit adapts when you rotate or rearrange displays while it’s running. If a window still lands in the wrong place, tile it again once and ClickFit will use the new screen size from then on.
A workspace restored some windows in the wrong place
Some apps take a moment to open their windows, and ClickFit can only place a window once it exists. Restore the workspace again once the apps have launched. If your displays have changed since you saved it, see When your displays change.
