Getting Started
Quick Start
The five gestures worth learning first, and where everything else lives.
ClickFit works from one idea: hold a modifier key and the whole window becomes a handle. You don’t need to aim for title bars or window corners.
The default modifier is ⌥ Option. You can change it at any time — see Choose your modifier below.
Your first five gestures
- Move — hold ⌥ and drag anywhere inside a window with the left mouse button.
- Resize — hold ⌥ and drag with the right mouse button. ClickFit resizes from the corner closest to where you grabbed.
- Tile — while moving a window, push the cursor to a screen edge or corner. A preview shows where it will land; let go to tile it.
- Center — hold ⌥ and double-click a window.
- Maximize — hold ⌥ and double-right-click. Do it again to restore the previous size.
Prefer the keyboard? ⌃⌥← and ⌃⌥→ tile the focused window to the left or right half. See Keyboard Shortcuts for the full set.
The menu bar icon
ClickFit lives in the menu bar and has no Dock icon.
- Click the icon to open the panel. Every feature has a section there: Snapping & Tiling, Window Actions, Gestures, Layouts, Workspaces, Tab Groups and Excluded Apps. The gear at the bottom opens Settings.
- Right-click the icon for a quick menu: turn ClickFit on or off, run a window action, apply a favorite layout, restore a workspace, or check for updates — without opening the panel.
Choose your modifier
Open the panel and go to Gestures → Mouse Gestures → Trigger. You can pick any combination of ⌘, ⌥, ⌃, ⇧ and fn. Choose one you don’t already hold down for other apps — for example, ⌘ + drag already means something in Finder.
Throw to Zone and the Layout Picker use a second modifier combination, ⌃⌥ by default. It can’t be the same as the move/resize trigger, because both gestures use the same mouse buttons.
Take the tour again
The welcome tour that opened on first launch is always available under Settings → Welcome Tour.
Where to go next
- Moving & Resizing — snapping and coupled resize
- Tiling — edge tiling, size cycling and gaps
- Gestures — Throw to Zone, the Layout Picker and trackpad gestures
